The picture shows a thin section of herpes
viruses on the surface of a cell. Three viruses already started to penetrate
the cell. Another virus is located in the intercellular space, it is cut only
on the side, so the DNA (red at the others) cannot be seen. Herpes simplex
virus causes a skin disease, usually on lips in form of itchy blisters (herpes
labialis, cold sores).
